Pakistan’s head coach-cum-chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has achieved another milestone as the Pakistan on Friday lost its top spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 rankings after more than two years, sliding to the fourth position as Australia rose to number one in both Test matches and T20 internationals.
According to a media release on the ICC website, Australia replaced Pakistan at the top of the T20 table. Pakistan had attained the number one position in January 2018 after defeating New Zealand and maintained its supremacy in the shortest format of the sport for 27 months.
Earlier, Misbah-ul-Haq continues to face flak from his own compatriots because of being the selector and head coach of the Pakistan team. It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Misbah as the coach and selector last year.
But ever since he took the dual role, he has been facing the heat from a number of former Pakistan cricketers.
It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan under Misbah’s captaincy has become only the fifth team after Australia, England, India, and South Africa to top the ICC Test rankings since these were introduced in 2003 as the Men in Green has topped the MRF Tyres ICC Test Team Rankings for the first time in 2016 after wet ground at the Queen Park Oval, Port of Spain, denied India the opportunity to defend the top spot which it had reclaimed from Australia on 17 August.
